Ruth is the Project Lead for the new Child Development Service.

You may remember that there was a Children's Review in 2019 which focused on the Best Start in Life. One of the four workstreams that came out of this review was looking at children with complex needs,  and a proposed pilot to set up an integrated Child Development Service (CDS) was suggested.
The CDS would become part of children’s targeted health service in Sutton over time and provide Paediatrician led multi-disciplinary assessments and interventions to children with complex neurological disorders, learning difficulties and developmental difficulties.
Phase 1 of the pilot is focusing on the multi-agency assessment and diagnosis of children under 5 referred to the Community Paediatric Service with emerging complex needs so that children and families receive the right care from the right services at the right time. This means that other professionals will be alongside the paediatrician for the assessment process and will contribute to the care plan that is put together. The pilot is due to start in the next few weeks and we are in the planning stages.
We know that families often have lots of appointments with different professionals who give them different levels of support and information, or they may have to wait some time to be offered an appointment. It's really important that we consider the whole process of assessment, diagnosis and support afterwards from the family's point of view, learn from their experience and consider their views and suggestions about how things could be improved. With this in mind, Ruth would like to meet with any of you who would like to share your experience with me. I am happy to do this in a coffee morning environment, or if you would prefer to speak to her privately and individually, then we are happy to arrange this too.
Please be assured that any information you share with Ruth about your child and your family will remain confidential. She is trying to understand what the process has been like for you and how we could change things to improve that in the future.
